Dr. Breuer is Spokesman of the Board of Managing Directors of Deutsche Bank AG, Chairman of the Private Clients and Asset Management Group and Chairman Corporate Investments. Active both in Europe and around the world, Deutsche Bank is one of the largest banks with operations in investment, wholesale and retail banking.
Dr. Breuer has spent his entire professional life at Deutsche Bank. He first joined Deutsche Bank in 1956 as an apprentice in Mainz and Munich. He rejoined the bank after completing his education in 1966 in Karlsruhe. In 1969 he transferred to the Investment and Trading Department at the bank's Head Office in Frankfurt, and was appointed Senior Vice President and Head of Investment and Trading in Frankfurt five years later. In 1985 he was appointed to the Board of Managing Directors, responsible for capital markets, securities trading and sales, asset management as well as the bank's business in France, Switzerland, the Middle East. In Germany, he was responsible for the bank's business in the Stuttgart region. He was voted into his current position in May 1997. As Spokesman of the Board, he is leading Deutsche Bank into the new competitive environment of globalisation and the internet era. He has committed himself to unequivocal customer orientation, to the continued integration of investment banking, and to a culture of open communication throughout the organisation. Acquisitions such as Bankers Trust give Deutsche Bank a uniquely strong position on both sides of the Atlantic.
Dr. Breuer has used his background in securities in the European capital markets for becoming one of the most forceful advocates of the modernisation of German capital markets and the improvement of their position in Europe. He is a member of the Federal Commission Code of Corporate Governance, the Exchange Expert Commission at the Federal Ministry of Finance, the President of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange Council and the chairman of the supervisory board of Deutsche Börse AG.
He has held positions on the boards of a variety of companies. Among others, he is currently a member of the supervisory
boards of Bertelsmann AG, e.on AG, Lufthansa AG, Munich Re, Siemens AG.
Dr. Breuer studied at the universities of Lausanne, Munich and Bonn, obtaining his doctorate in law from the University of Bonn in 1967.
Dr. Breuer was born in Bonn on November 3, 1937. He and his wife Barbara have five children..
