Brigita Schmögnerová, the Minister of Finance of the Slovak Republic as of October 30, 1998, was born November 17, 1947 in Bratislava, Slovak Republic.

In year 2000 - Mrs. Brigita Schmögnerová is the winner of the Finance Minister of the Year Award by Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC.

Mrs. Brigita Schmögnerová graduated in 1971, School of Economics in Bratislava, PhD. in Economics in 1979.

In 1971-1976 lecturer in Operational Research at the University of Economics, Bratislava. In 1976-1993 a Senior Researcher, Project Manager (Employment policy, Transition from CPE to a Market Economy, etc.) at the Institute of Economics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava. In 1993-1994 Head of Department of the Economic Policy at the Office of the President of the Slovak Republic. From March till November 1994 a deputy prime minister for the Economic Policy in the Interim Government of the Slovak Republic. In 1995-1998 a Vice Chairwoman of the Party of Democratic Left. From December 14, 1994 to October 1998 a Member of Parliament Finance, Budget and Currency Committee - National Council of the Slovak Republic.

Mrs. Schmögnerová is a governor of the EBRD; an alternate to a Governor of the IMF; a member of 3 scientific societies (incl. European Association for Comparative Economic Studies) and a member of the Editorial Committee of the Economic Journal, Bratislava.

NGO-Activities :
Mrs. Schmögnerová is a member of the Board of Directors, Institute for East West Studies, New York, U.S.A (1996); a Consultant to the Expert Advisors Program the Foundation for a Civil Society (1996) and a member of the Board of NOS (Nadácia pre obíciansku spoloícinos').

Mrs. Schmögnerová is an author of more than 50 publications published in the Slovak Republic and abroad; co-author of 3 monographies and a contributor to the international proceedings from the Conferences.
