Wulf Schmiese

Chief Editor “heute journal”, Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen, Mainz

Dr Wulf Schmiese is chief editor at ZDF-“heute journal”, Germanys leading and most seen news magazine on television.

Born in Münster, Westphalia, he studied history and politics in Berlin. His PhD in history is an analysis of the German-American relations between 1989 and 1991, the book title is “Fremde Freunde”.

After finishing University, he went to the Henri-Nannen-School of Journalism in Hamburg. 1998 he began as a political reporter at the daily paper “Die Welt” in Berlin. 2001 he switched to the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”, covering the Foreign Minister and the Chancellery.

2010 he started working at ZDF as anchor at the German daily news show ZDF-Morgenmagazin. 2017 he moved from Berlin to the ZDF headquarters in Mainz. Schmiese lives now with his wife and their three sons at the Rhine.
