Mary C. Daly

Mary C. Daly is the president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, serving the largest and most diverse Federal Reserve District. In this role, Daly helps set monetary policy to fulfill the Federal Reserve System’s price stability and full employment mandates. She assumed leadership of the San Francisco Fed in October 2018, building on a distinguished career as a preeminent labor and policy economist specializing in labor market dynamics and economic inequality. Daly’s research has advanced understanding of the Federal Reserve’s mandates, most notably through her studies of wage rigidity, the natural rate of unemployment, and the economic benefits of reducing wage and employment gaps between demographic groups. She has served on numerous advisory boards, including the Congressional Budget Office, the Social Security Administration, and the Library of Congress, and currently serves on the Urban Institute’s board of trustees. She holds a Ph.D. in economics from Syracuse University.
